Why this exists
How quickly students hear back affects how they learn, but that turnaround is hard to see from inside a course. EdQ Score (Education Quality Score) adds a teaching-analytics board to every course, so instructors can see how quickly work is being graded and answered, and exactly what needs attention next.
Instructors see the students in their own groups. Editing teachers and managers see the whole course.
How the score works
The EdQ score is the share of student submissions, forum replies, assignment feedback and manually graded quiz attempts that were handled within the grading window.
- On time: full credit.
- Late: half credit. The work was handled, but after the window.
- Overdue: no credit. The work still isn't done, or it was done so late that it no longer counts as late.
The score uses raw counts, not an average of percentages, so one assignment can't skew a course with lots of forum traffic. Only submitted work counts toward feedback, so a student who never submitted isn't held against the instructor.
Features
Assignments
Submission and grading turnaround, whether feedback was given, and overdue items.
Forums
Post and reply turnaround, plus instructor participation.
Quizzes
Grading turnaround on attempts with essay questions. Fully auto-graded quizzes never count.
Needs your attention
The specific misses behind the score: not graded, graded late, no feedback, or no instructor reply.
Configurable thresholds
Hours before an item counts as late or overdue, site-wide with per-course overrides, including when each clock starts.
Daily digests
Two optional notifications through Moodle: the instructor's score and top misses, and new assignment submissions from the last 24 hours.
Installation
Requires Moodle 4.5 LTS to 5.3 LTS. Download it from Moodle Marketplace ↗, or clone it from your Moodle root folder. On Moodle 4.5 and 5.0:
git clone https://github.com/germanbobadilla/moodle-local_edqscore.git local/edqscore
On Moodle 5.1 and later:
git clone https://github.com/germanbobadilla/moodle-local_edqscore.git public/local/edqscore
Then log in as an admin and visit Site administration › Notifications, or run php admin/cli/upgrade.php.
Usage
- Open a course. Teachers and editing teachers see an EdQ Score link in the course navigation.
- Check the score, then open assignments, forums or quizzes for the details.
- Open Needs your attention to see the specific items pulling the score down.
- To change the thresholds, use Site administration › Plugins › Local plugins › EdQ Score, or Course settings on the dashboard for one course.
Settings
A course override replaces the site default for that course only. Leave a course field blank to use the site default.

| Grading hours | 48h assignments and quizzes, 72h forums | Hours an item can wait before it stops counting as on time. |
| Considered late after | 120h | When an item goes from late to overdue, even if it has since been handled. |
| Count turnaround from | Submission date | When the clock starts: submission or due date, and cut-off date for assignments. |
| Send EdQ Score digest | On | Daily summary of an instructor's score and top misses, per course. |
| Send assignment submission digest | On | Daily list of new assignment submissions from the last 24 hours. |
Capabilities
| Capability | What it allows |
|---|---|
local/edqscore:view | View the EdQ Score board for a course. |
local/edqscore:manage | Edit the site-wide default thresholds. |
local/edqscore:configurecourse | Override thresholds for one course. |
Editing teachers can view the board, but can't change the thresholds it's measured against.
Marketplace and testing
EdQ Score is listed on Moodle Marketplace ↗. Marketplace's automated tests for version 0.5.2 (PHP Lint and plugin validation) found 0 problems ↗.
The repository also runs a wider set of checks with Moodle Plugin CI on every push, and the results are public ↗:
PHPUnit and Behat
Automated tests, including browser tests in Chrome.
Moodle Code Checker and PHPDoc Checker
Moodle's coding and documentation standards, with no warnings allowed.
Plugin validation and upgrade savepoints
The plugin structure is valid, and upgrade steps are in place.
PHP Lint, Mustache Lint and Grunt
Valid PHP and templates, with JavaScript and CSS checks and no lint warnings allowed.
